in recent memory for the fire department. There were a total of 4 alarms in May. The department
responded to three medical emergencies and one vehicle fire. Damages from fires in the city were
listed at $0. The lone vehicle fire on US 30 caused no damage as a mobile home being towed to
a scrap yard caught fire from the tires of the trailer rubbing underneath the floor of the mobile home
and igniting insulation which was quickly extinguished with a booster line off engine 62.
Fall Bash- Approximately 7,000 of the total 10,000 tickets have been sold. This amount is on
par with years past for this
date. The event is to be held at the Harv in

Equipment News- Engine #66 is almost ready to be put in service. The 2006 Sutphen engine
was delivered recently and is currently having the final options installed, including a cab-mounted
rear camera, new radio, and mounting of tools in compartments. Hose has been ordered and installed.
This engine, with tools, options, and hose cost nearly $300,000 and is being funded in large part from
proceeds from the Fall Bash fund-raisers.
Membership news- We wish to thank everyone for their prayers for our Treasurer and Chaplain
Steve Kourpas during his recent illness. Steve is recovering from a life-threatening brain aneurysm .
His prognosis is great and he is expected to make a full recovery. We also want to ask you keep our
brother Rod Coen in your thoughts. Rod is also battling a life-threatening illness. Rod served as
Chief for nearly 20 years before retiring in 1992.
Fireworks- A
quick reminder to everyone that the annual fireworks display in
for July 4th, at
Chester Fire Department, The American Legion Post 121, the Chester VFW, and donations from
businesses and private donations here in town. A day long celebration is planned, including a free
concert by the Poverty Neck Hillbillies, food booths, a parade, and then the fireworks. Come to
Fire Prevention- Plans are underway for National Fire Prevention Week 2006. The
Chester Fire Department will be participating in this national annual event. The event this
year will be held October 8th-14th.
This year’s theme is “Prevent Cooking Fires;
Watch
What You Heat”. The campaign is designed to draw awareness to kitchen fires, the leading
cause of home fires. The Chester Fire department takes an aggressive role in fire prevention,
educating thousands each year during fire prevention week. Check our fire prevention link on the
